In a civilized and organized Europe, what powers people to search for connections and action in non-governmental non-profit organisations? What brings together young and old, innovators and traditionalists, extraverts and intraverts together, striving to reach for a positive change in local community?  

Sharing insights from years of experience of social mobilisation in Ukraine, we extend our discussion to the realms of motivation behind effort that are non-paid and often even hard to conduct. What is a true nature of what we call civil society? What skills and competences are crucial for democratic development?
